more about me

I believe that the most important element of counselling is the relationship that forms between a client and his or her counsellor, and I will do my utmost to provide you with a supportive, non-judgemental environment in which you can explore your concerns at your own pace and in a way that best suits you.  I believe in an approach that helps people to identify their strengths and current coping skills, and which looks at ways that these can be adapted to address current situations or challenges. I am very respectful of people's need to feel secure in counselling, recognising the great courage that it takes to confront often painful emotions and memories.
I am a qualified counsellor, a registered individual member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy [BACP] and a qualified supervsior (see link here).  I have worked in Manchester and Stockport for many years and have experience in supporting adults and young people on a range of issues, including:
  • stress at work or at home
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • low self-confidence
  • family difficulties and breakdown
  • relationship issues
  • coping with emotionally demanding careers
  • loss and bereavement
  • abuse
I have particular experience with adults, young people and children under stress, and with adults and teenagers who have experienced difficulties in childhood.  In addition to my private practice, I also currently work in a school offering therapeutic support to young people.  I have worked as a pastoral lead and advisor in education, and have experience of training and supporting staff in a range of other caring professions.  I take a strong interest in supporting people who have chosen a caring profession but may now find themselves struggling to manage the particular stresses of such work.
I work within the ethical framework of the BACP.
